September Poll: To Ping, or not to Ping?

August's poll asked your opinion on the podcast series of review that I've been doing in conjunction with Tee Morris and Bird House Rules. We didn't get quite the number of votes that I'd hoped for but I'm glad that folks were willing to stand up and be counted.

Nine people responded in the poll. Three of them said they were enjoying the series and were looking forward to the rest of it. Glad to hear that. I hope it lives up to your expectations.

Two more respondents thought the podcasts made a nice change of pace in the scheme of things. Also glad to hear that! Part and parcel of The Nifty Tech Blog is trying to find better ways of doing things, so a little experimentation comes with the territory. If we try something, and it works, so much the better!

Another pair of respondents said that they preferred the level of information that they got from the blog articles. I can understand this. With the blog, I can go a lot more in depth than I can with a podcast. The flip side of this is that at times I get a little concerned that I'm going too deep in providing information and overwhelming my readers. I'll do my best to peak your interest without drowning you in data.

There was one more person who said that they didn't listen to the podcasts because they didn't have an iPod. I would have thought that everyone knows by now that you don't need an iPod to listen to a podcast, just some kind of device that will play MP3 files.  Like a computer.

The last person chose the "That's it?" option on the poll. Unfortunately, they didn't leave any comments anywhere to indicate how the podcasts failed to meet their expectations. This does tend to limit what we can do to improve things in the future. We will keep trying, but the more we know about what you want to see, the easier it is to provide.

Since September kicked off with Apple's announcement of new iPods, a new Apple TV, and the introduction of their new Ping social network, I thought I'd look at that for September. The iPods and Apple TV won't be available for a bit, but Ping is available now, so I thought we'd look at that for this months poll. Are you going to join Ping? Do you think it is worth your time? Do you think it will be a real tool for discovering new music, or is it just a way for Apple to get you to buy more? Let me know what you think! As always, feel free to leave a comment, send an e-mail, or leave a voice message. I want to hear from you!

Dude, the poll ain't here. But I'll spot you the answer "I'm already using Last.FM and I doubt Ping could be better than that, so no thanks."

I'm not defending or supporting Ping, I'm just wondering what people think of it. So far it looks like most people aren't that thrilled with it. Apple seems to have missed the mark with this one.

And I am sorry the polling tools I currently have access to aren't the best. This site is current hosted on Blogger, which limits things. I am working on moving to a new host where I will hopefully have more robust tools to provide a better experience all around.
