#FollowFriday - @StephenFry: Author, Actor, Erudite Gentleman, Twitter advocate, and i-Thing Enthusiast.

This week, the coveted Follow Friday position has been reserved by your humble editor for that most gracious and witty personage, @StephenFry. In many ways, Mr. Fry has been one of the major formative influences for geeks of my generation. In the early 1980's as my compatriots were emerging from the hormonal haze of high school, Stephen was beginning his career as an actor and a comedian. Moving from the madcap insanity of A Bit of Fry and Laurie, to the historical parody of the Blackadder series, to the ever-so-proper Jeeves and Wooster. Mr. Fry has been lurking in the background of modern entertainment, appearing in odd and unusual places such as A Fish Called Wanda, I.Q., The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, V for Vendetta, and Alice in Wonderland. And soon he will emerge again from the shadows of the entertainment world as Mycroft Holmes, Sherlock Holmes older and much more intelligent brother. Stephen has always made a virtue of intelligence and wit. In a time when so much of society plays to the lowest common denominator, Stephen embraces his intelligence and encourages others to do the same. His popular series Q.I. (Quite Interesting) is a celebrity quiz show where the answers are obscure, espousing popular myths will gain you heavy penalties, and one can gain points just by sounding as if you know what you're talking about. Stephen has long been a fan of Macintosh computers, having bought the third one sold in the United Kingdom (his friend Douglas Adams was in line ahead of him and bought the first two). He has continued to be a fan of Apple's products and innovation, as well as those of others. He claims that "I have never met a smartphone I have not bought." He has been described as "deeply dippy for all things digital". I put to you, that Stephen Fry is the very model of a modern major geek. I give you as evidence, the following essay, via YouTube.

But we're here to talk about Twitter, and why you should be following @StephenFry. On Twitter @StephenFry is as charming and as forthright as you could wish. He talks about his various projects, charitable events that he supports, his latest technological fascination, and otherwise proves that 140 characters is the soul of wit. He may not reply to all of the 1.9 million followers he has, but he does acknowledge them and the fact that they are listening says more about their generosity than his tweetings. Yes, even through all this, Mr. Fry is humble. What is not to like?
